Sorry, Thanos fans, but that Agatha All along twist has nothing to do with the big purple villain

A big Agatha All Around twist reminded some Marvel comics fans of Thanos, but unfortunately the connection many might want isn’t there.

Spoilers for episode 7 of Agatha All along.

Those who know Thanos well know that his movie counterpart is actually very different from his original comic book version. In the movies, his whole thing is that he wants to bring balance to the universe because of…overpopulation, or something, I can’t quite remember, it was stupid. However, in the comic books, he wants to kill the entire universe to please the one person he is most in love with: Death incarnate. Yes, Thanos likes to kill in the comics just because he’s a little too horny, which is pretty normal when it comes to comic book weirdness, and you can see why they didn’t put that in a movie.

Death wasn’t established in the MCU, or well, death as a being, not death as a concept, so it’s not like that would have worked. Except in the seventh episode of the currently airing Marvel TV series Agatha All along, Aubrey Plaza’s character Rio Vidal was revealed to be Death (something many fans theorized and others knew outright because it was leaked via a Pop Funko figure (oops!)). Unfortunately for all Thanos x Death shippers, her appearance in the MCU currently has no meaning for The Mad Titan.

Speaking to Inverse, showrunner Jac Schaeffer said very clearly: “Thanos is not on my show, so I can’t talk to Thanos connections. Thanos is out there, I have no answers for you.” Of course, that doesn’t completely rule out anything in the future, the MCU is too big for one showrunner to have the final say on things like that, and even if Thanos is dead, there’s that whole multiverse thing Marvel is doing. But to be completely honest, I think it’s probably best to leave that storyline in the comics so people can keep telling TikToks about Thanos you didn’t know about yet.
