The Chicago Bears suffered a devastating loss to the Washington Commanders thanks to a last second Hail Mary from quarterback Jayden Daniels. As a result of the way the Bears lost, Cole Kmet stated that the team “disrespected the game”, and that was evident in practice leading up to the Week 8 game.

“I think it’s a really good lesson for everyone to learn from when it comes to respecting the game,” Kmet said. “I think we had examples of that throughout the game and, honestly, last week’s practice. There are times when some guys lie down here and there, those are the kinds of things that can happen when you a certain amount of time.” It’s just a split second. It doesn’t always come and bite you in the ass, but when it does, it hurts. I will continue to haunt you one way or another.”

Kmet did mention Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson’s error in judgment in which Stevenson was fouled whistling with fans in the stands while the infamous Hail Mary play had begun. However, Kmet said Stevenson stood up for the team and apologized for his actions.

Meanwhile, Kmet added that several players, besides Stevenson, were not as serious as they could have been during practice all week. He mentioned habits in the weight room or doing exercises with the weight machines as examples.

Although the Bears came away from losing in a last-second move, the offense struggled throughout the game. Quarterback Caleb Williams, who has been playing really well lately, completed just 10 of 24 passes for just 131 yards in the 18-15 loss.

The Bears will get a chance to put Sunday’s loss behind them when they take on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9.
